Choosing Your Provider: Network Matters
October 27, 2019
SmartHealth gives you a choice of provider networks, and the level of coverage you receive is based on the provider network you choose. With the SmartHealth plans, there are two levels of in-network providers: Ascension Network and National Network. You also have the option to go out-of-network.
The Best Option
Not surprisingly, visiting a provider in the Ascension Network is always the most affordable option. This is where you’ll receive the best level of coverage at the lowest price. Plus, we have a vast network of primary care and specialty providers to meet your medical needs within the Ascension Network. It is important to know that it is possible for a provider at an Ascension facility not to be a part of the Ascension Network, so be sure to check. Sometimes they are part of the National Network instead, resulting in higher out-of-pocket costs.
The Next Best Option
The National Network (Blue Cross/Blue Shield) is still considered in-network. While your coverage level will not be as high as when seeing a provider in the Ascension Network, you’ll still benefit from negotiated prices that are competitive to the market.
The Most Expensive Option
We believe in giving you a choice, so you can always see a provider who is not in either network. However, when you opt to go out-of-network, we’ll still provide coverage, but you’ll pay a much larger portion of the expenses—at least 50% if not more—up to the out-of-pocket maximum.
