Obesity prevalence among children and adolescents is still too high. You can prevent your child from having to deal with the serious health issues that come with childhood obesity. All you have to do is add some fun to their exercise routine. We have 5 fun ways you can get your child moving this summer:
1. Make exercising fun
Get creative when you try to think of ways to get your kids moving. You can frame almost any form of exercise as a game making it more fun for them. They’ll love playing a game of tag without even realizing they’ve been exercising the whole time. The key to keep your kids active is making their activities fun for them.
2. Go to the park
For most of the summer, you probably try to find ways to keep your kids occupied. Taking them to the park is great because you can utilize the playground equipment and all the space that comes with a public park. Bring along items that promote fun physical fitness for your kids like a jump rope, sports balls, chalk, and more!
3. Take family walks
Get the whole family moving by taking family walks either in the morning or after dinner. You can take your family pets along too! This is a great way to spend time with the whole family while promoting exercise. Your kids will love getting to stroll around the neighborhood with you.
4. Involve their friends
Talk to the other parents you know and see how they’re getting their kids to stay active this summer. When you go on trips to the park, you can invite your child’s friends to come along. This will help them have fun and also encourage other children to stay active.
5. Don’t let rainy days get you down
t’s true that most of the summer fun will be taking place outdoors. However, you don’t have to let the rainy days bring you down. You can do fitness activities with your child even indoors! For example, you can turn on some music and have a dance party. Dancing is a great way to get the kids moving while also having some fun. Tag is another great game to play indoors as long as you can move furniture out of the way.
Exercise is important for children because their body is still developing.
