COVID-19 SmartHealth Coverage, Guidance, and Vaccine Availability
April 28, 2021
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact thousands in the U.S. daily, Ascension continues to provide coverage, information, and vaccinations for associates and SmartHealth members.
While getting the vaccine is not mandatory for Ascension associates who are also SmartHealth members, it is highly encouraged.
Getting the vaccine comes at no cost to you.
Ascension recommends following all applicable local, state, and federal vaccination guidelines and schedules for the prevention of COVID-19.
Ascension also recommends following all applicable local, state, and federal health orders and guidelines for social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
As the vaccine becomes available in more locations and Ministries for more people, SmartHealth members should watch for announcements from their Ministry on vaccine availability and check local resources for COVID-19 vaccination information updates, which can be found through Ascension’s website. Appointments for vaccines are required.
The currently available and FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccines in the U.S. from Pfizer and Moderna are safe and effective. The approved vaccines have been shown to prevent COVID-19 at an effective rate of about 95% of the people who have received both doses of either the Modern or Pfizer vaccine. More information about COVID-19 vaccines, including their safety and efficacy, is also available on Ascension’s COVID vaccination FAQ.
Resources and updates about Ascension’s efforts in support of COVID-19 vaccine distribution and administration are on Ascension’s COVID-19 Vaccine Resource Center.
Your SmartHealth coverage continues to cover you during the pandemic.
Through December 31, 2021 (subject to ongoing review), we are waiving deductibles, copays, and member cost-sharing for provider office visits, urgent care visits, emergency department visits, and virtual urgent care visits through Ascension Online Care related to COVID-19 diagnosis, and COVID-19 testing and care for all members enrolled in either the SmartHealth PPO Plan or the SmartHealth High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Here are some things to know when deciding where to get care:
Ascension Online Care and your Primary Care Provider (PCP) can help guide you as to where to receive care and what next steps you should take regarding any symptoms that you may be experiencing.
Use emergency department resources as recommended by your healthcare provider.
Not everyone is a candidate for getting the COVID-19 test. Your doctor will decide, based on your symptoms, whether you should receive the test.
